Frequently Asked Questions

Why Acupuncture could be for me

Acupuncture is a natural, safe, and effective treatment that restores balance, promotes healing, and supports overall wellness. It’s great for pain relief—and much more.

It can help with:

  • Pain relief (back, neck, headaches, joints)

  • Stress & anxiety

  • Better sleep & energy

  • Women’s health (menstrual issues, fertility, menopause)

  • Injury recovery (whiplash, post-surgery, sports injuries)

  • Rehabilitation & chronic conditions

  • Overall wellness & prevention

Endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO), acupuncture works well on its own or alongside chiropractic care, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation for a holistic approach to healing.

How does it feel?

Most people don’t feel pain—just a tiny pinch or a mild, relaxing sensation as the needles go in. It can feel like a gentle pressure or warmth, but it’s soothing and calming for most people.

If you are nervous about the needles, rest assured that they are so super fine – like the thickness of a hair, that most people barely feel them, and many even fall asleep during treatment.

How quickly will I see results?

Some people feel better right after the first session, but for lasting results, a few treatments are often ideal.

What Should I do Before the Treatment Session?
  • Let your acupuncturist know about any other treatments you’re receiving.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to Acupuncture points.
  • Eat a light snack beforehand—don’t arrive on an empty stomach.
  • Avoid coffee, alcohol, and other stimulants before (and alcohol after) your session.
  • Take a few deep breaths and relax—being calm helps your treatment work better.
What Should I Do After the Treatment Session?
  • Take it easy—rest, drink water, and avoid strenuous exercise right away.
  • Notice how your body responds, whether relaxed or energised.
  • Pay attention to the effects and share feedback with your practitioner. This helps tailor future treatments to your needs.
How Often Should I Have Acupuncture

The frequency of Acupuncture depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it, the severity of the issue, and your health goals. We will create a personalised, individualised care plan tailored to your specific needs. For general health concerns, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are recommended for the first month or two.

After that, most people move to monthly treatments as part of a maintenance plan to sustain progress and promote long-term well-being.

I Have Needle Phobia. Are There Any Non-Invasive Treatments Available?

Yes. If you’re uncomfortable with needles, we offer several gentle alternatives.

These include Tuina (a therapeutic form of medical massage), reflexology, tapping techniques, and moxibustion. We also use a Japanese style of Acupuncture, which is especially light and well-suited for people who are very sensitive or anxious about treatment.

How Does Acupuncture Help With Musculoskeletal Problems?

Acupuncture helps relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility by targeting specific points on the body. It promotes natural healing, reduces muscle tension, and enhances circulation, making it effective for conditions like back pain, neck pain, arthritis, and muscle strains.

When combined with therapies like chiropractic care, it can deliver even more effective results, backed by research supporting its complementary benefits.

Can Acupuncture be Used Alongside Other Treatments?

Yes, as mentioned earlier, Acupuncture can complement other forms of medical treatment and therapies.

It is commonly used alongside conventional treatments like chiropractic care, physiotherapy, and even Western medicine. If you are undergoing medical treatment, it’s always a good idea to discuss your Acupuncture sessions with your acupuncturist to ensure the best overall care plan.

Do I Need to be Ill to Have Acupuncture?

No. Traditionally, Acupuncture has been used as a form of preventative medicine.

Health is more than just the absence of disease—feeling well encompasses your overall sense of balance and vitality. Maintaining good health in the modern world can be challenging, and this ancient system offers many tools to support your well-being.
