The role of chronic disease

Chronic disease is highly prevalent in our society. It’s extremely hard to find someone who has never been affected by it – whether personally or friends or family who have. By chronic disease, we mean examples such as type two diabetes, cardiovascular disease or even some forms of cancer. 
 
Something that is not stressed enough is that it is possible for these diseases to be eradicated, merely by altering lifestyle choices in the right way. Unfortunately, the ‘norms’ of society, the media etc are not conducive to this notion… and so bad habits are therefore able to persist. Bad habits are ‘silent killers’ in that it’s their accumulation which causes high blood pressure, insulin resistance and chronic inflammatory state in the body. This can go on for years (in silence) before symptoms become noticeable and the diagnosis is made. 
 
The lifestyle that creates chronic diseases also creates pain, disability and dysfunction. It’s wonderful to see the results of those with pain and dysfunction improve and become able again with Chiropractic care. However, there are those who can go much further with appropriate coaching on the principles of a true wellness lifestyle. 
 
 

If a patient with low back pain also has low energy, how likely are they to exercise and move their bodies well? If they do not exercise and move their bodies well for the long term, how likely are they to continue experiencing pain and dysfunction?
